Netflix now has a complete sci-fi series with lots of action, deadly viruses and a woman who never tires of saving the world. There’s even something for horror fans.
When video game adaptations go their own way and only match the original in name and a few core elements, this can often backfire. But if you deliver endlessly entertaining sci-fi action cinema, no one can really be mad anymore. And perhaps such films will even become cult.
This formula has certainly worked for Paul W.S. Anderson and his wife Milla Jovovich. They have made six films together since the first Resident Evil, shooting and shredding their way into the hearts of many a sci-fi, action and zombie fan.
The entire Resident Evil series is now available on Netflix. The very platform that thought it wanted to remake the source material as a series two years ago – and failed mercilessly
Sci-fi action now on Netflix: In the Resident Evil series, Milla Jovovich kicks countless zombies’ asses
So we come together to listen to the eternal tale of zombie carnage. It begins, like so many end times tales, with a secret, clandestine research facility and a dangerous, dangerous virus. A virus that is released through an unfortunate chain of circumstances and poses an enormous threat to the world.
Good thing there’s also a (bad? good? we’ll see!) queen, in this case the Red Queen, the lab’s AI. She takes protective measures and kills all infected people first. But what do I have to hear? They rise again as zombies and mutants and mutant zombies? Then, as in any good story, a special commando will have to be called in.
Our two action princesses Alice (Milla Jovovich) and Rain (Michelle Rodriguez) will take care of the zombies and the queen. And not just in a movie. No, no, our fairytale world spans six films in which humanity is visibly decimated and the earth is increasingly overrun by monsters.
But of course Alice never gives up. Humanity wants to be saved and the earth rebuilt. Because the work of a true action princess never stops as long as the undead, the Umbrella Corporation, secret technologies and hidden bunkers are involved!
