Already the most exciting movie of the year? Twist master M. Night Shyamalan unleashes serial killer at a concert

M.Night Shyamalan is back with a new horror thriller based on an extremely suspenseful premise. Here you can watch the first trailer for Trap with Josh Hartnett

The days when M. Night Shyamalan was considered a fallen directorial prodigy are long gone. After his blockbuster flop in the early 2010s, he has revived his career with several really nasty horror thrillers. Most recently, he thrilled audiences with mindfuck stories à la Old and Knock at the Cabin.

Shyamalan’s next film is already in the starting blocks. With Trap, he could deliver one of the most exciting films of the year. The starting point sounds perfect. And then there’s another special feature: unlike many other Shyamalan films, which have a twist at the end, here the twist comes right at the beginning.

If you want to see the movie completely without spoilers, you should jump off right now.

Horror thriller highlight 2024: First trailer for Trap by M. Night Shyamalan with Josh Hartnett as a serial killer

Josh Hartnett, who last wowed in a small supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb film Oppenheimer, takes on the role of a father who sets off with his daughter Jody (Ariel Donoghue) to his concert in Trap. Countless fans are eagerly awaiting the performance of pop star Lady Raven (Saleka).
But then something unexpected happens: heavily armed police surround the concert venue. A serial killer called The Butcher has chosen the event as the site of his next bloodbath, as Hartnett’s character learns from an employee in the sold-out arena. The only thing is, Hartnett himself is playing the killer.

That definitely sounds like an exciting premise. Incidentally, Saleka, the actress playing Lady Raven, is Shyamalan’s own daughter, who is known in the USA as a singer-songwriter in the R&B genre. She has worked with her father on the Apple series Servant and the aforementioned film Old, among others.
