The Mandalorian & Grogu is the next big Star Wars movie to hit theaters. Here’s everything you need to know about the next chapter about the bounty hunter Din Djarin and his protégé Baby Yoda
Since the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019, there hasn’t been a new Star Wars film. That will change with The Mandalorian & Grogu. Until now, we’ve only seen the titular characters on Disney+ in series format. Now Din Djarin and Baby Yoda are experiencing their first big screen adventure. Here you can find all the important information about the highly anticipated Star Wars project
When will The Mandalorian & Grogu be released in cinemas?
The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released in German cinemas on May 21, 2026. The project was announced in January 2024 and filming is scheduled to begin in June 2024. The Mandalorian & Grogu is the 12th Star Wars movie in total and the first Star Wars movie to be a spin-off from a series.

Filming is set to feature a first for the franchise. The Mandalorian & Grogu is the first Star Wars film to be shot in California. Previously, productions were based in the UK (studios: Elstree, Shepperton, Ealing, Leavesden and Pinewood) and Australia (Fox Studios).
What is the plot of The Mandalorian & Grogu?
Concrete details about the plot are not yet known. However, it can be assumed that the story picks up after the events of season 3 of The Mandalorian and brings back many familiar characters from the stellar saga.
As part of the announcement of the film, an explosive concept art was revealed, giving us a first feel for the movie. This was created by concept artist Ryan Church, who previously contributed iconic designs to the prequels.
Who is part of the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu?
Pedro Pascal is expected to return in the lead role. In the series, he lent his voice to the Mandalorian and also played him in individual scenes. However, Din Djarin would not be complete without his doubles: Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder can be seen in front of the camera most of the time when the Mando hides his face under his helmet, which is often the case.
It would also be conceivable to bring back familiar Mando characters such as:
Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze
Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano
Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett
Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand
Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto
Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Caron Teva
Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth
Emily Swallow as Armsmaster
Carl Weathers, who was seen as Greef Karga in the first three seasons of The Mandalorian, is no longer with us. The actor passed away in February 2024.

Is Luke Skywalker returning in The Mandalorian & Grogu?
Probably the most memorable moment of the Mando series is the season 2 finale, in which Luke Skywalker (a digitally rejuvenated Mark Hamill) appears as a savior in distress and takes little Grogu protectively to himself. This Luke Skywalker was also part of the spin-off The Book of Boba Fett. It is quite conceivable that he will also be in the Mando film, perhaps even together with Leia Organa and Han Solo.
Who is the director of The Mandalorian & Grogu?
The Mandalorian & Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau, who already served as series creator and showrunner of the series on which it is based. He has written most of the scripts for The Mandalorian, but has only directed one episode so far, namely the spectacular season 2 opener with the Krayt dragon. Otherwise, he is known for films such as Iron Man, The Jungle Book and Buddy – The Christmas Elf.
Who is the screenwriter of The Mandalorian & Grogu?
Favreau is once again teaming up with Star Wars mastermind Dave Filoni, who has been with the franchise since The Clone Wars, on the script. Favreau and Filoni are a well-rehearsed team. The two filmmakers already worked together on The Mandalorian before Filoni set up his first own live-action project in the galaxy far, far away with Ahsoka at Disney+.
Moment, isn’t Dave Filoni making his own Mando movie?
Yes, exactly. There are two movies in development at Lucasfilm based on the series universe kicked off by The Mandalorian.
The first is The Mandalorian & Grogu and is being directed by Jon Favreau.
The second was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 and brings together the individual Mandoverse stories. The film will be directed by Filoni, but does not yet have a specific theatrical release date.
So far, the Mandoverse includes:
The Mandalorian (2019)
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Ahsoka (2023)
Skeleton Crew (2024)
