The first two Avatar films have grossed over five billion US dollars in the cinemas. Now director James Cameron and his team are preparing the next chapter of the sci-fi saga: Avatar 3. Avatar 3 will be released in German cinemas on December 17, 2025. This means the wait will be much shorter than for The Way of Water. Instead of 13 agonizingly long years, we only have to wait three years before we can return to Pandora. And the best thing is: the timetable for the films after that has already been set.

Avatar 3 opens on December 17, 2025
Avatar 4 opens on December 19, 2029
Avatar 5 starts on December 17, 2031

What is the title of Avatar 3?
The title of Avatar 3 has not yet been revealed. In November 2018, a list of possible titles for the Avatar sequels made the rounds. Among them was the correct title for the second part. According to this list, the following films would be The Seed Bearer, The Tulkun Rider and The Quest of Eywa (via BBC ).
Although Cameron confirmed the leak to Entertainment Tonight in 2019, we have known since the theatrical release of The Way of Water that none of the other titles will be taken over. In an interview with Comic Book, producer Jon Landau stated: “I’m authorized to tell you that [The Seed Bearer] is not the title of Avatar 3. “
What is the plot of Avatar 3?
According to Landau, with each new Avatar film we can expect more Pandora biomes that we haven’t seen before, including in Avatar 3. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly he explains:
Each [Avatar] movie will introduce audiences to new clans and new cultures on Pandora. Once we introduce a character, they remain part of the ongoing story. […] So you can expect to see the Metkayina clan [from Part 2] again in later films. New clans are added in Avatar 3, which also appear in Avatar 4 and so on.
A new clan has been announced: In Avatar 3, we will be introduced to the Ash People, who are closely associated with the element of fire. In contrast to the peaceful Omatikaya and Metkayina, this new clan is warlike in nature. The villains in Avatar 3 therefore also come from the ranks of the Na’vi. The world of Pandora is becoming more complex.
However, we won’t just be spending time on the paradisiacal planet in the sequels. In Avatar 5 at the latest, Earth will also play an important role. And if there is still a demand for Avatar films afterwards, Cameron has ideas for parts 6 and 7, as he revealed to the Hollywood Reporter
In addition, the first spoilers for the plot of Avatar 3 have been leaked: apparently the original mortal enemies Jake and Quaritch get along. Quaritch is the biological father of Spider, who in turn was raised by Jake on Pandora. Spider can now even breathe the air of Pandora without a mask

What is the running time of Avatar 3?
The length of an Avatar movie is always a big issue. The first installment went 2 hours and 42 minutes, the second comes in at 3 hours and 10 minutes. If this continues, Avatar could end up with a running time of just under four hours. So far, however, there is no concrete running time for the sci-fi sequel.
In March 2023, an interesting rumor made the rounds: According to scooper Jeff Sneider, Cameron is allegedly working on a 9-hour version of the film, which will be released as a miniseries on Disney+ after the theatrical release. However, in an interview with Temple of Geeks, the director explained that this version does not exist.
