One Piece season 2 on Netflix: it’s now roughly clear when the fantasy series will return

by Mike

When will the 2nd season of One Piece finally start on Netflix? Many fans of the fantasy adventure series have been asking themselves this question for months. Now there is a promising update on the filming

Last year, Netflix broke the curse of bad anime adaptations with the live-action series One Piece. In the Moviepilot and Filmstarts rankings, the pirate adventure even made it to 6th place in the best series of 2023. The series became a hit for the streaming service and a season 2 renewal was not long in coming.

However, the Hollywood strikes in 2023 put a huge damper on the anticipation for One Piece season 2. More than six months after the renewal, no new episodes of the sequel have been filmed. This will now change soon and a start date for the Netflix return of the Straw Hat Gang can finally be estimated

The filming of One Piece season 2 reveals when it will continue on Netflix

As the always well-informed site What’s on Netflix has discovered, filming for the second season of One Piece is finally set to begin in South Africa in June 2024. Production is scheduled to take around seven months and is expected to be completed in January 2025.

But when will season 2 be available on Netflix? There is no official start date yet. However, last year the producers behind the One Piece series gave an estimate that the time span between the start of production and release could be around 12 to 18 months. This gives an approximate estimate that One Piece season 2 will land on Netflix between summer 2025 and the end of 2025

With a 2025 launch, One Piece joins some of Netflix’s biggest series hits that will return next year with new seasons after long waits. Series fans can then look forward to new episodes of Wednesday, Stranger Things and The Witcher.

One Piece season 2: What’s next for Ruffy and co. on Netflix

Since Netflix’s One Piece adapts the manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, it is already possible to estimate how things will continue for the Straw Hat Pirates Ruffy (Iñaki Godoy), Nami (Emily Rudd), Sanji (Taz Skylar), Zorro (Mackenyu) and Lysop (Jacob Gibson) in season 2 after the conclusion of the so-called Eastblue saga.

Next up would be the Alabasta saga. The Straw Hat Pirates head to the Grandline for the first time, where they become directly involved in the machinations of the Baroque company, which was mentioned several times in season 1, and conspiracies in the desert state of Alabasta. In the process, the crew meets new enemies and new allies, two of whom even join the pirate gang in the future: the reindeer Chopper and the archaeologist Nico Robin.
