In the worst movie of the defunct DC universe, she was the only bright spot. You can watch Margot Robbie’s second appearance in her most iconic role to date on Amazon Prime

Margot Robbie was already a big star before Suicide Squad, but as Harley Quinn she was catapulted into new spheres of fame. For the first time, the girlfriend of the infamous Joker was embodied on the big screen. Birds of Prey: The Emancipation of Harley Quinn was a loose sequel that focused on the anti-heroine – without the Joker.

Birds of Prey with Margot Robbie is now available to watch in the streaming flat rate on Amazon Prime.

Anti-heroine in search of her own identity: That’s what Birds of Prey is about on Amazon Prime

Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and the Joker have broken up. Now Harley is trying to get over the break-up and reinvent herself. In the process, she meets singer Dinah Lance (Jurnee Smollett), who works for gangster boss Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor).

Here you can watch the trailer for Birds of Prey:

Dinah is sent off with Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina) to steal a diamond. This in turn is stolen from them by the young pickpocket Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco). Sionis puts a price on Cassandra’s head, who has found shelter with Harley Quinn. And soon Harley and her new friends have to defend themselves against the gangster boss’s men.

You can now stream Birds of Prey on Amazon Prime

The superhero blockbuster Birds of Prey flopped at the box office – despite good reviews

Although Harley Quinn quickly established herself as a fan favorite in Suicide Squad and audiences seemed to be waiting for a solo film, Birds of Prey was not a financial success. With a budget of 84 million US dollars, the film only grossed 205 million US dollars worldwide, as Box Office Mojo summarizes.

For a superhero blockbuster, Birds of Prey fell far short of expectations, especially when we consider that Joker had just broken the billion-dollar mark for DC. Despite the flop, Birds of Prey was very well received. On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film won over both critics and audiences with more than 70 percent approval in each case.

You have to give Birds of Prey credit for one thing. The movie broke new ground in the DCEU and managed to follow its own vision. After the DCEU had long emulated the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was only known as a dark superhero universe, Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey were able to bring unfamiliar spectacle to the universe
