After a long wait, a new Tron sequel is really coming in 2025. One of the stars of the sci-fi blockbuster has now raved about the shoot and teased nothing less than a technical revolution
It’s been 14 years since the last Tron film. A third film in the sci-fi series, which has consisted of Tron and Tron Legacy since the 80s, has now been firmly announced for 2025 after years in production hell. In addition to superstar Jared Leto, Shameless and Gotham actor Cameron Monaghan is also starring in Tron 3. The actor has now raved about the shoot and thrown around technical superlatives
Sci-fi sequel Tron 3 is set to change the world of film
In the Collider interview at the Calgary Expo, Monaghan spoke about his personal connection to the Tron franchise, which he had even before he was cast in the new installment. He saw the first part as a child on an airplane while attending the premiere of Tron Legacy as a 16-year-old.
He then watched the second part again in the cinema last year, where the sci-fi blockbuster was still technically impressive to overwhelming for him:
I like that there are several years between these movies. They don’t come out very often and each time they do, they showcase a new era of technology and filmmaking.

He’s currently on set himself as part of Tron 3 and, according to Monaghan, the production seems to guarantee that the sci-fi sequel will once again set new technical standards:
‘I think in a very similar way, this movie is really going to push what’s possible from a visual perspective. Sometimes I’ve even dropped in on days I wasn’t working because of this set, because it’s so amazing. A lot of the hand-built sets were pretty phenomenal and I would love to see those too.
