Netflix rescue of fantasy series thought dead finally begins: We’ve been waiting 6 (!) years for this

After 6 years of planning, Netflix’s fantasy remake of The Chronicles of Narnia series is finally set to begin. Shooting under Greta Gerwig is still scheduled for 2024.
Back in 2018, Netflix announced that the streaming service had acquired the rights to The Chronicles of Narnia novels by C.S. Lewis and was planning a huge new edition of the popular book series. It was only last year that the project slowly got rolling when Barbie director Greta Gerwig was officially signed up for the fantasy project. In a few months’ time, things are finally set to get underway – and the filming of Netflix’s Narnia is set to begin.

Major fantasy project: Netflix’s Narnia remake is finally set to start filming in August 2024

In March, Greta Gerwig announced that she would soon be resuming pre-production on the two-part project in London, but promised that filming would not start before the end of this year or the beginning of 2025. However, as What’s on Netflix claims to have learned from internal sources, the whole thing is now moving faster than expected after almost six years of stuttering along. Gerwig and her team are said to be planning to start filming as early as August 2024.

The Chronicles of Narnia series of novels comprises seven books written by British author C.S. Lewis and published between 1950 and 1956. To date, the fantasy series has been adapted four times for TV and cinema. The best-known film adaptation was released between 2005 and 2010 with three feature films under Disney and 20th Century Fox and starred James McAvoy, Ben Barnes and Tilda Swinton, among others.

Gerwig has been signed up by Netflix for two Narnia films so far. It has not yet been confirmed which novels the Barbie director will be tackling. However, it is likely that she will follow the example of the cinema productions that began in 2005 with The Chronicles of Narnia – The King of Narnia
