There has probably never been a film like Aggro Dr1ft by polarizing directorial eccentric Harmony Korine. The new trailer for the action delirium shows once again how visually unique the trip looks
At the world premiere of his new film Aggro Dr1ft last year, Gummo and Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine once again caused a minor controversy. His new work has become so visually excessive and unwieldy that audiences fled the movie theater en masse.
It was already known in advance that Korine had shot the action thriller entirely in bright infrared. You can now see what that looks like again in the eyeball-melting new trailer
Here is the new Aggro Dr1ft trailer:
Excessive action nightmare: This is the “plot” of Aggro Dr1ft
The story framework of Harmony Korine’s experimental film is about the world’s best hitman (Jordi Mollà), who goes about his deadly work in Miami while looking after his wife and children at home. In order to escape his profession for good, he has to kill a monstrous boss. US rapper Travis Scott can also be seen in a small supporting role.
Already read it? Harmony Korine teases cinema revolution and dishes out the goods: “Looks better than anything Steven Spielberg has ever made “
The story of Aggro Dr1ft is probably only a minor matter. Korine was much more interested in exploring new cinematic boundaries and the possibilities of extraordinary visual storytelling. In addition to the extreme visuals, the director also relies on a staged shooter dynamic that makes the film feel very much like a video game.
If you watch the new Aggro Dr1ft trailer, you’ll get an idea of how radical (or completely unnerving) this visual odyssey is likely to look as an 80-minute feature film
