The Interview with a Vampire series is one of the most successful fantasy dramas of recent years. In its new German VoD home, you can now watch both season 1 and the brand new season 2.
When fantasy highlights such as House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power aired in 2022, another genre series more or less went under and was later no longer even available on its original German home, Sky and WOW.
The horror-fantasy saga Interview with the Vampire by showrunner Rolin Jones is a new interpretation of Anne Rice’s novel of the same name, commissioned by US broadcaster AMC. On May 13, 2024, it will move into the MagentaTV program, where both the 1st season and the brand new 2nd season will go online
Fantasy horror at its best in Interview with the Vampire on MagentaTV
Reporter Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) is invited to Dubai by vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) to repeat a failed interview they conducted once before in the 1970s. The immortal bloodsucker finally wants to tell the now experienced journalist his whole story. It all began in 1910, when the brothel owner from New Orleans was haunted by the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid). However, the charismatic killer did not want Louis as a meal, but as a companion.
Torn between Lestat’s attraction and the need to keep up appearances as the pimp of the red light district, Louis only became involved with the vampire when his life took a dark turn. Equipped with the dark gift, the sensitive child of the night soon realized that killing people did not come as naturally to him as it did to his creator vampire.
The question soon arises as to how Louis was able to survive all these years as a vampire, how dangerous and toxic Lestat really was as a murderous afterlife partner, what became of their vampire daughter Claudia (Bailey Bass) … and whether Daniel can really trust Louis’ contradictory narrative.
The Chronicles of Vampires and AMC’s Immortal Universe
The US channel AMC acquired the rights to several books by the late horror author Anne Rice. In addition to the multi-part Chronicles of the Vampires, they bought her three-part witch saga, which became the sister series Mayfair Witches. Future crossovers or overlaps with another format about the secret organization Talamasca under the umbrella term Immortal Universe are therefore anything but impossible.
If you would like to take another look at the 1994 film adaptation Interview with a Vampire starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst beforehand, it is available as part of the Amazon Prime Video subscription. As in the novel, the vampire tale in this version is set in the 19th century instead of the 20th
What happens in the 2nd season of Interview with the Vampire?
Season 2 of the series more or less covers the remaining half of the first Rice novel. Louis tells Daniel about how he and Claudia (recast with Delainey Hayles) traveled to war-ravaged Europe to locate other immortals.
After an unsuccessful search in Eastern Europe, they ended up in Paris, where they found the Théâtre des Vampires – real bloodsuckers pretending to be humans pretending to be vampires. But while Claudia was fascinated by Santiago (Ben Daniels) and the other stars of the theater, Louis only had eyes for their leader Armand (Assad Zaman).
In the present, Daniel becomes suspicious of a second interviewee with murky motives and wonders what really happened during the first interview back in the 70s.
