Die Hard sends its regards: Gerard Butler is to protect a skyscraper from terrorists in his next film. But not just any skyscraper
Gerard Butler established himself as an action star with Olympus Has Fallen. As a genre great, he is now set to get his own Die Hard: In Empire, he saves the titular Empire State Building from a terrorist. Two very promising names are involved behind the camera:
New action thriller: The story of Gerard Butler’s Die Hard version already sounds absolutely terrific
Deadline has already found out the plot of the film. It will put a big grin on the faces of genre fans: Butler is to play former Navy Seal Rhett, who now works as a New York firefighter. When a disgruntled ex-mercenary wants to punish the USA with an attack, Rhett has to save the Empire State Building. His girlfriend Dani, of all people, with whom he has recently had a very strained relationship, works with him as a New York police officer.
The synopsis, with all its wonderful genre clichés, sounds like pure entertainment. And if that’s not enough, you can look forward to the prominent names behind the camera: the film is to be directed by Christian Gudegast, who was already responsible for Butler’s action highlight Criminal Squad. S. Craig Zahler, the creator of the extremely bloody horror western Bone Tomahawk, will write the screenplay.
