Lead actress Anya Taylor-Joy wanted to make one scene in the finale of Furiosa particularly violent. The director had the extreme moment cut out at the end.
With Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller has finally brought the epic prequel to Charlize Theron’s fighter to cinemas. As a younger version of the character, Anya Taylor-Joy hunts down the crazed villain Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) in a dark tale of revenge.
Without giving too much away at this point, the finale sees a confrontation between the protagonist and her great adversary. If Taylor-Joy had had her way, we would have seen an even more brutal version of this encounter. But the director took the extreme moment too far.
Spoilers for the finale of Furiosa follow now!
Anya Taylor-Joy wanted her tongue cut out in Furiosa
At the end, Furiosa and Dementus meet again in the finale of the sci-fi blockbuster. The villain, who previously crashed into a huge sandstorm, lies seriously injured in front of the title character and has to admit defeat to his former foster daughter.
Already read it? Shut up, Chris Hemsworth: 5 minutes separate Furiosa from the best sci-fi movie of the year and the Marvel star is to blame
Scenes follow in which the brutal demise of Dementus is played out in several what-if scenarios. In the GQ interview the leading actress revealed that she even wanted to top George Miller’s crude ideas and express Furiosa’s rage more strongly by having Furiosa cut out Dementus’ tongue.
The director probably took the idea too far and the scene did not end up in the final film. As the GQ article reveals, Taylor-Joy was at least allowed to keep a replica of Chris Hemsworth’s severed tongue as a souvenir
