Hollywood muscleman Chris Hemsworth is moving on from Marvel and Mad Max with the Transformers franchise, which crosses over with another live-action Saturday morning cartoon.
Currently, Thor actor Chris Hemsworth can be seen in theaters as a young version of the villain Dementus in the dystopian prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Behind the scenes, meanwhile, the actor is preparing for his next genre blockbuster.
This is said to be a crossover between two sci-fi franchises that began life as Saturday morning cartoons in the 1980s.
The Transformers meet G.I. Joe in the crossover blockbuster – and Chris Hemsworth is in it
At the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, a connection to the G.I. Joe film series is teased when protagonist Noah (Anthony Ramos) meets á la Nick Fury Agent Burke (Michael Kelly). Both franchises are owned by toymaker Hasbro, which may have made negotiations a little easier.
As Variety reports, Hemsworth is now also set to join the mix of giant robots and super soldiers that Paramount is currently preparing. Negotiations are still ongoing regarding his involvement and role, which has not yet been disclosed.
Agent Burke recruits Noah in Transformers 7:
For the transforming giant robots it would already be the eighth film in the series, for the soldiers of the American secret organization the fourth. In this country, however, it is the Transformers in particular that are causing nostalgic feelings, as the animated series with the jingoistic-sounding title G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero did not make it onto German television at the time. According to The Numbers, the Transformers films to date have grossed over 5 billion dollars at the global box office.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told Variety that the blending of the two film series was not a cynical move: “Noah goes from someone who couldn’t get a job to someone who gets the greatest job in the world. It felt really organic to put it in here because you can relate it to the story.”
Transformers One, an animated film about Robots in Disguise, will also be released in cinemas on October 10, 2024. Chris Hemsworth is already on board as a voice actor and lends his voice to Young Optimus Prime in the original
