New on Netflix: The best horror movie of the last decade, in which fits of laughter are only 5 seconds away from terrifying shocks

A masterful horror thriller is now available to watch on Netflix. Over 104 minutes, the Oscar film manages to be as shocking as it is hilarious

Jordan Peele is a phenomenon. The experienced US comedian only found a second foothold as a horror director a few years ago and is already considered a master. He owes this reputation not least to his terrific first film, which is now available on Netflix: For us, Get Out is the best horror film of the 2010s, in which social satire, bizarre twists and intense horror go hand in hand.

On Netflix: horror masterpiece Get Out delights with twists and biting humor

Get Out revolves around black photographer Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), who visits his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) and her rich parents in the country. Repulsed by the couple’s racist undertone, he turns to the black acquaintances in the rural community. And discovers a gruesome secret.

The twist of Peele’s directorial debut should not be revealed here. Just this much: it’s as creepy as it is satirical, as effective as it is ambiguous, as much an individual horror movie as it is a political punch in the gut. Some moments are so exaggerated that viewers will be in tears of laughter. And five seconds later, they’ll be clawing their fingers into the arm of their chair in sheer horror.

Get Out was nominated for a total of four Oscars at the 2018 Academy Awards, with Peele eventually winning the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Since then, he has clearly taken a liking to the horror genre: He was also in the director’s chair for We and Nope.
