Shortly after the start of season 2 of House of the Dragon, the next Game of Thrones series has already been announced. HBO has unveiled the first image from A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms

While we’re excited about the return of House of the Dragon, the expansion of the Game of Thrones universe is in full swing behind the scenes. HBO recently confirmed the 3rd season of the Targaryen spin-off. Further spin-offs of the fantasy saga are also in development. The next series is already being filmed.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the title of the third Game of Thrones series, which is due to be launched on HBO next year. The project is based on the novella Tales of Dunk and Egg by Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin and revolves around the knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg.

100 years before Game of Thrones and 100 years after House of the Dragon, Ser Duncan moves through Westeros

To mark the start of filming, HBO has released the first image from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, giving us a glimpse of Ser Duncan, played by Peter Claffey (Vikings: Valhalla). However, there is still no sign of his companion, Dexter Sol Ansell (The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes).

As Variety reports, HBO has also announced five more cast members in addition to the first image.

Finn Bennett (True Detective) will play Aerion Targaryen
Bertie Carvel (Doctor Foster) plays Baelor Targaryen
Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things) plays Tanselle
Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) plays Ser Lyonel Baratheon
Sam Spruell (Fargo) plays Maekar Targaryen

In addition, the directing staff is also complete. A few weeks ago, we learned that Owen Harris (Black Mirror) would be directing the first three episodes. Now it’s clear: the remaining three chapters of the first season of A Knights of the Seven Kingdoms will be directed by Sarah Adina Smith (A Question of Chemistry).

The official synopsis for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is as follows:

A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wander through Westeros: a young, naïve but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his small squire Egg. Set in a time when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet faded from memory, great destinies, powerful enemies and dangerous exploits await these unlikely and incomparable friends.
Season 1 of the Game of Thrones spin-off was written by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker (Better Things), who is also involved in House of the Dragon.
