Now the 2nd season has even finished filming: Netflix high-flyer The Night Agent was renewed immediately after its launch in March 2023 and we have all the information on what happens next.
The first season of the agent series The Night Agent was a sensational success for Netflix. Hardly any other series has been renewed so quickly. The Night Agent became the most-watched Netflix season of the entire year 2023. Season 2 has just finished filming.

In this article you will find all information about The Night Agent, season 2:

Start date: When is The Night Agent season 2 coming to Netflix

After a few setbacks, it is indeed confirmed that The Night Agent will be released on Netflix in the second half of 2024. This is confirmed by the Hollywood Reporter . There is no exact start date. Filming has been completed since June 17, 2024, tweete Netflix itself.

That’s why season 2 is coming sooner than expected: Like so many productions, season 2 of The Night Agent was severely affected by the Hollywood double strike. Over the course of last year, it actually became increasingly unlikely that we would get to see the sequel to the spy thriller in 2024. At Christmas, Gabriel Basso, who plays the protagonist Peter Sutherland, personally provided an update that gave us hope.

The entertainment blog Bam! Smack! Pow!” caught an exciting announcement on Basso’s Instagram stories on December 23, 2023: “We start shooting The Night Agent season 2 in less than two weeks!” The start of filming is an important milestone in production. A thriller series like The Night Agent also doesn’t need as much CGI as a fantasy and sci-fi production, for example, which significantly extends the post-production of effects-heavy series.

Number of episodes: How many episodes does The Night Agent season 2 have?

Just like season 1, season 2 of The Night Agent will also have ten episodes. We assume that the individual episodes will again be between 45 and 55 minutes long.

Plot: What is season 2 of The Night Agent about?

Attention, spoilers for the end of season 1 follow! In the season 1 finale, Peter Sutherland himself becomes the titular Night Agent. He saves the US President from a bomb attack by the Vice President, finally learns the truth about his father and gets his first assignment as a Night Agent.

So far, nothing official is known about the plot of season 2. Season 1 was based on the book of the same name by Matthew Quirk * – but the novel never got a sequel.

We assume that Peter will be investigating a major case in the ten upcoming episodes that will span the entire season. At least that’s the wish of showrunner Shawn Ryan (The Shield), who wants to keep all seasons of The Night Agent self-contained.

Peter Sutherland will certainly learn more about the so-called Night Action program itself, of which he has now become an essential part. After all, the US President says to him at the end of season 1: “The Night Action program goes deeper than you can think or imagine. It transcends continents.”

Series replacement until season 2 starts: The Night Agent is only the 6th best agent action series of recent years

Cast: Hardly anyone will return from season 1

Since showrunner Shawn Ryan wants to keep each season self-contained, a large part of the cast will also change. We know this from the other big agent action series at the moment, Reacher on Amazon.

Returners from season 1: The only thing that is certain so far is the return of the two main characters.

Peter Sutherland (Gabrial Basso) as the titular Night Agent.
His girlfriend, Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), who wants to give her tech company in California a second chance

With the Night Action program reporting to the President, US President Travers (Kari Matchett) could also return. Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola) could be organically woven into Season 2 as the President’s new Secret Service agent at the end of Season 1. All the other major characters have been given an ending for their character – mostly in prison or in the cemetery.

New additions to season 2: Many exciting stars have already signed on for season 2 and are currently busy filming. The official Instagram account of The Night Agent and the Internet Movie Database lists them:

Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect)
Berto Colon (Orange Is the New Black) as Solomon
Louis Herthum (Westworld) as Jacob Monroe
Arienne Mandi (The L Word: Generation Q) as Noor
Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex)
Miriam Silverman (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Gretchen
Siya (The First Purge) as Daryoosh
Amanda Warren (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) as agent Catherine Weaver
Marwan Kenzari (Black Adam) as Reza, a former soldier
Elise Kibler (The Sunlit Night) as Sloane
Rob Heaps (Seattle Firefighters) as Tomàs Bala, Sloane’s partner
Dikran Tulaine (The Blacklist) as Viktor
Keon Alexander (The Expanse) as UN employee Javad
Michael Malarkey (Vampire Diaries) as military chief Markus
Navid Negahban (Homeland) as UN delegate Abbas
Rob Heaps (Seattle Firefighters) as Tomas, son of a convicted dictator
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Agent Catherine Weaver will be an important character in season 2. She is already very familiar with the Night Action program. However, it will be difficult for her to gain Peter Sutherland’s trust after everything he experienced in season 1.

The first picture from the set announces big changes

In early February, Netflix released the first official image from the set of season 2 of The Night Agent on Instagram.

On it you can see main actor Basso with a film clapperboard. But if you look closely, you’ll notice a big change from season 1, as filming is taking place in Thailand for the first time. Season 2 is to be filmed mainly in the Asian country with the iconic power cables and in New York
