The theatrical release of the next Deadpool blockbuster is just a few weeks away. Now there are initial estimates of the box office results, which are more than optimistic
When Deadpool & Wolverine opens in cinemas at the end of July, we will almost certainly get one of the most successful films of this cinema year. The superhero spectacle may even become the box office hit of 2024. Initial forecasts are already predicting unprecedented box office figures for the blockbuster starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
First Box Office forecast for Deadpool & Wolverine is unbelievable
According to Deadline, initial projections suggest that the new Deadpool movie could bring in between 200 and 239 million dollars over the opening weekend in the USA. The site The Quorum, which estimates such figures in advance and is considered highly reliable in the industry, is even making a modest estimate. The figure could end up being even higher.
Already read it? Ryan Reynolds can’t believe what Hugh Jackman has done for Deadpool & Wolverine
As Deadline further explains, there has never been an R-rated film in history that has grossed 200 million dollars at the start. The previous record holder is the first Deadpool film, which opened to 132.4 million dollars in the USA
Deadpool & Wolverine could thus become the most successful film of the summer and perhaps even of the year, if it weren’t for a current competitor standing in the way. According to Box Office Mojo, the Pixar sequel Everything Stands on its Head 2, which unlike the Marvel film is released for all age groups, has already achieved worldwide box office takings of over 438 million dollars. And that is not the end of the animated film’s success story.
The higher R-rating, which will probably lead to an FSK 16 release in Germany, could therefore still pose a threat to Deadpool & Wolverine on its way to the box office throne in 2024, because a younger audience will not contribute anything to the revenue.
