Fans have been waiting years for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel. Now director Doug Liman has given new hope and said he’s still talking to Tom Cruise about it
Sometimes all it takes is Tom Cruise dying 26 times in a futuristic battle against aliens to create a brilliantly entertaining sci-fi blockbuster. Edge of Tomorrow was released in 2014, but was only a mild success at the box office. Nevertheless, a sequel has been talked about for years.
Now Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman himself has spoken out again and spoken rather optimistically about a sequel.
Edge of Tomorrow director assures that part 2 of the sci-fi thriller is still being discussed
Since initial plans for a sequel emerged back in 2014, Edge of Tomorrow 2 has long since sunk into production hell. In 2019, co-star Emily Blunt spoke about how she would love to make a sequel to the sci-fi blockbuster. At the time, however, there was still a lack of brilliant ideas.
Now, a recent Empire interview with Liman has been published, who once again hopefully teases a sequel:
‘We keep talking about it. We love this world. I don’t know how long it took Cameron with his Terminator parts, but at the time it seemed like a long time.

The director didn’t reveal any more specific information, but he recently watched the first Edge of Tomorrow film again with Cruise to mark the tenth anniversary. Liman is said to have still been impressed by the entertaining quality of the blockbuster
So it looks like fans will have to be patient for at least a few more years before a possible Edge of Tomorrow sequel is released. Nevertheless, hope dies last (soon more than 26 times)
