Netflix will soon be continuing the Terminator franchise with an anime series. It will be based on the horror aspect of the 1984 debut, as the maker has now revealed.
Even merciless killing machines become obsolete at some point. This is how it will appear to many Terminator fans: The veteran sci-fi franchise faced an uncertain future after the mega-flop of Terminator: Dark Fate. Netflix will soon be continuing the series with the anime series Terminator Zero. And now there are new, tangible details
Netflix wants to bring back the horror atmosphere of the Terminator franchise
According to Deadline, series creator Mattson Tomlin revealed at Anime Expo 2024 that the Netflix series will pick up on the “serial killer vibe” of the first Terminator. It’s a detail that is often overlooked by some fans: The horror references play a significant part in the mood of the movie. The Terminator causes similar horror to the genre cult figures Michael Myers or Jason.

As the report suggests, the series is moving away from the action focus of the movie series. In any case, Netflix’s Terminator is bitterly evil again. The story revolves around a scientist who is being hunted by a murderous cyborg from the future. The machine is supposed to prevent him from developing an alternative to the merciless A.I. Skynet. The story takes place in the years 1997 and 2022.
However, it remains to be seen just how sinister Terminator Zero will be. After all, the existence of a robot cat in the series was also revealed at the Anime Expo. Whether it represents a threat or just a cuddly distraction is not yet clear
