The story of The Substance revolves around movie star Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), who was once one of Hollywood’s A-list. However, the best years of her career are long behind her. The temporary low point is reached when she is fired as the presenter of her own fitness show on her 50th birthday.
It is precisely at this moment that she receives a mysterious offer: a new drug is supposed to give her the opportunity to play at the top of the dream factory again. Just one injection and Elisabeth wakes up in the body of young Sue (Margaret Qualley). But it doesn’t take long for some unwanted side effects to set in.
