The last time Tim Blake Nelson played the villain Samuel Sterns in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in 2008. A short shot in the Captain America 4 trailer now teases his return
Next year sees the release of Captain America 4: Brave New World in February, the first big Marvel blockbuster of the year. A first trailer recently set the mood for the superhero spectacle, which also features Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk alongside Anthony Mackie as Steve Rogers’ successor Sam Wilson.
The villain role of Breaking Bad favorite Giancarlo Esposito, whose character no Marvel fan is said to have guessed yet, is also causing a lot of guesswork. Apparently, Captain America 4 features a completely different, secret antagonist anyway, who we last saw in 2008.

The character played by Tim Blake Nelson was first seen in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. In the Marvel comics, Sterns is an extremely intelligent villain who, like the Hulk, has an accident with extremely high gamma radiation. He later becomes the green muscleman’s arch-enemy.
In The Incredible Hulk, Sterns is a cell biologist who is visited by Bruce Banner after his accident with questions about a cure. However, he wants to use his blood to develop a cure for many other diseases. In the 2008 MCU blockbuster, Sterns is brutally thrown through his own laboratory by Emil Blonsky and is left lying on the floor, badly injured and smiling.
