The Alien series goes where no movie has dared to go – and the official title proves it

The upcoming Alien series not only takes us into the past of the sci-fi world, but also to a location never visited. That much is revealed in the unveiled title

The prequel series from the Alien universe is coming at us with big Xenomorph strides. What has been missing so far: an official title for the sci-fi horror from US channel FX.

But that’s in the past, because the series project from Noah Hawley (Fargo) finally has a name that reveals the never-visited setting.
Alien: Earth – On Earth, everyone hears you when you scream

The sci-fi horror will be titled Alien: Earth, reports Variety , which puts the action right on our earthly doorstep. The story takes place long before human machinations in space and will revolve around the competition between large corporations such as the villainous Weyland-Yutani Corporation to create lifelike androids. Will the xenomorph aliens even play a role? According to THR’s interview with the showrunner, yes, but they want to ignore the origin story of the alien monsters established in Prometheus – Dark Signs.

The somewhat unspectacular title possibly refers to the film sequel Alien 5, which was never made at the time. Its treatment by screenwriter Stuart Hazeldine was called Alien: Earthbound and would have had franchise badass Ripley experience an adventure on Earth. However, Sigourney Weaver had no interest in the setting, according to the archived MTV Movies Blog from 2009 about the movie.

In any case, the Alien series seems to be a priority at FX, judging by the latest Variety interview with network boss John Landgraf:

We’re pretty dogged about Alien: Earth and told [Noah Hawley] to focus on it and write at least two seasons before he turns his attention to a possible 6th season of Fargo, in case Alien: Earth becomes a returning series, as we hope.

A 2nd season of the sci-fi horror starring Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant and co. has not yet been officially ordered. In any case, the first season is due to be released in the first half of 2025
