While we wait for Alien: Romulus, a fan delivers an almost single-handedly produced Alien short film that was six years in the making. The sci-fi horror universe has never been seen like this
Alien: Romulus, the seventh part of the long-running sci-fi horror series, awaits us in cinemas from August 15, 2024. Ever since the final trailer, fans have been giddy with anticipation that seems to be out of this world.
The enthusiasm is almost only surpassed by an impressive fan project that was published for free on YouTube this week. And it’s not even in live action
Alien fan film with retro anime charm was 6 years in the making
Paul Johnson aka OtaKing on YouTube has already made fan videos for Star Wars and other franchises. With Alien: MONDAY, he has now delivered his biggest tribute to date – with the look of a retro anime from the 80s. Fans of Bubblegum Crisis, Lily C.A.T. or Appleseed will recognize the aesthetic. But see for yourself:
In the (minus credits) approximately 15-minute anime short film, the technician of a mining spaceship wakes up from cryo-sleep. She finds another crew member with a huge hole in his chest and realizes to her horror that she is no longer alone on the ship. With the help of the on-board computer, she takes drastic measures to destroy the creature from another world along with its unhatched siblings – and maybe even get out of this alive.
The two dubbing voices of the sci-fi heroine Ashlin and the on-board computer Conrad are provided by Sara Secora and Phillip Sacramento.
