The director’s cut of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon saga is getting a lot of negative reviews. Nevertheless, the sci-fi spectacle has made it into the Netflix charts
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon films were among the most hotly anticipated sci-fi hits of the season last year. That’s how bitter the disappointment was for many when the two parts moved to Netflix and fell through with many fans according to Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the negative reactions, Snyder brought a harder and longer version of the films to the streamer a few days ago, featuring more sex, strong language and violence.
Even if the press is once again not singing his praises, Snyder can at least claim one success: He has landed in the Netflix top ten with both films.
Director’s Cut of Rebel Moon makes it into the Netflix charts – despite scathing reviews
The unabridged version of Rebel Moon Part 1: Child of Fire is currently at number 8 in the streamer’s film charts, while Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scarmaker follows close behind at number 9. Snyder’s director’s cuts also generally seem to be more popular with audiences than his shortened versions. On Rotten Tomatoes, the new version of Part 1 achieved an audience score of 67 percent – against a score of 56 percent for the shortened version. Part 2 saw a similar upswing from 47 to 69 percent.

The press also gives the uncut versions a few percentage points more, but overall is not as gracious as the audience. A devastating rating of 33 percent each for Part 1 and Part 2 speaks clear words, which are summed up by industry magazine Forbes: “Longer, bloodier and doesn’t improve anything.” TheWrap has also said goodbye to Rebel Moon: “Anyone who wasn’t convinced by the first version will also be left cold by the new one. “
When is the sci-fi sequel Rebel Moon 3 coming to Netflix?
If you enjoyed the sci-fi thrillers – whether in the abridged or unabridged version – you can hope for a sequel. Zack Snyder has already announced that he wants to bring at least a third part to Netflix. However, it is not yet known when and whether this will appear on the streamer. It is not expected before 2026 due to the high production costs
