In early September, Netflix is launching Rebel Ridge, a promising action thriller from a genre talent. The first trailer sets the mood for escalating violence

With violent genre thrillers such as Blue Ruin and Green Room, Jeremy Saulnier has established himself as an expert when it comes to brutal thrillers and action thrillers. Most recently, the director shot the thriller drama Wolf Nights for Netflix, in which he added mystery elements to his usual motifs.

Saulnier returns to Netflix in 2024 with a new film. Rebel Ridge promises hard-hitting action fare in which an ex-marine single-handedly takes on a police department full of corrupt cops. See for yourself with the first trailer for the upcoming film

This is what the new action thriller Rebel Ridge on Netflix is all about

In the movie’s story, ex-Marine Terry (Aaron Pierre) wants to get his wrongly imprisoned cousin out of jail in a small US town. However, the local cops are so corrupt that they withhold the main character’s bail and refuse to release the cousin. The situation between Terry and the police escalates more and more until it comes to a merciless escalation.

John Boyega dropped out of Netflix as the lead actor during filming

Instead of Aaron Pierre, Star Wars star John Boyega was initially on board as the lead actor in Saulnier’s film. In 2021, Deadline then reported that the actor would drop out of filming. The reason given was family matters.

The Hollywood Reporter subsequently collected reports from anonymous set sources that Boyega had disagreed with various conditions such as the script or his accommodation and simply left. These are unconfirmed assumptions.
