The Netflix series Wednesday broke several streaming records in 2022. No wonder Netflix has ordered a second season. However, the morbid Wednesday is just one part of the legendary Addams Family. If you liked the Netflix series, you absolutely have to watch the classic 1991 film The Addams Family, in which Wednesday’s family completely spins its wheels. The movie is currently streaming on Paramount+.
In addition to Wednesday (played in the film by Christina Ricci), the Addams family includes father Gomez (Raúl Juliá), mother Morticia (Anjelica Huston), brother Pugsley (Jimmy Workman), uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd), grandmother (Judith Malina) and butler Lurch (Carel Struycken). But don’t worry, the favorite from the series, Ice Cold Hands, also makes an appearance in the film and provides a few laughs there too.

While the series focuses on Wednesday and her school days, the movie is all about the normal Addams family madness. The children try to kill each other, Gomez and Morticia enjoy their macabre romance and Uncle Fester causes chaos with his crazy experiments. Things get particularly entertaining when the family meet the normal people from the town. So if you want to experience the full spectrum of darkly comic goings-on, you won’t be disappointed by the movie.

Head of the family Gomez suffers from a guilty conscience. After an argument with his brother Fester, he disappeared without a trace. This gives the cash-strapped lawyer Tully Alford (Dan Hedaya) an idea. Gordon, the son of one of his clients, looks an awful lot like the missing Fester. Tully decides to pass him off as the lost brother in order to scam the Addams family fortune.
When the replacement Fester suddenly reappears, Gomez and the rest of the family are overjoyed. But Wednesday is suspicious and begins to keep an eye on the supposed uncle. Fester and Gordon have to find their way in the eerie world of the Addams Family, which leads to many bizarre situations and humorous moments. Ultimately, the family must stick together to uncover the truth and protect their home from the rapacious lawyer and his client Abigail (Elizabeth Wilson).
