For those who think we’ve seen all of Pandora, Avatar 3 is going to surprise you. That’s what James Cameron promised at the weekend
We won’t have to wait as long as last time for the next film from James Cameron’s Avatar world. Avatar 3 will be released next year. The official title of the science fiction adventure was announced last weekend: Avatar 3: Fire and Ash. Cameron explained what exactly is behind it at the Disney fan event D23 in Anaheim, California.

Avatar 3: Fire and Ash – What does the title mean
Fire and Ash follows on from the events of Avatar 2: The Way of Water, in the finale of which Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) lost a son. The conflict with the human leads their family in Part 3 to the so-called “Ash People”, literally “ash people”, a clan of Na’vi who, according to Cameron, are more drawn to violence and power than others (via Variety ). “Fire and Ashes” therefore refers to the new Na’vi clan on the one hand. But there is another meaning:
Avatar creator James Cameron explained the layers of meaning in an interview with Fandango (via CBR ):
I mean, if you think about it, what is fire? Fire can be hate, violence or trauma, power or abuse of power. There’s a lot of thematic material.
Cameron also offered an interpretation for the second part of the title:
What do the ashes stand for? In my opinion, in this movie it represents the aftermath of all that energy, which is grief and having to live with what you’ve done.
The title possibly refers to Jake and Neytiri’s reaction to the loss of their son – and further developments in Avatar 3, which of course we don’t know yet.
Concept art for sci-fi film shows “insane adventure “
Concept art for the sci-fi film was also presented at D23, giving a glimpse of Ash People dancing around a fire. But see for yourself:

Cameron didn’t just promise the darkest side of the Na’vi (and Jake and Neytiri) yet in D23. He didn’t hold back in describing the spectacle:
‘You’re going to see a lot more of Pandora than you’ve seen before. It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but there are also a lot of emotions at stake, more than ever before
