Amazon cancels fantasy series after just one season – despite rave reviews

Those waiting for the 4th season of the Netflix series Bridgerton can pass the time with My Lady Jane on Amazon. But not for very long, as the fantasy format was canceled after just one season

Bridgerton clones have been a dime a dozen since the success of the semi-historical Netflix series. However, hardly any format comes close to the romantic dramas from Shondaland. This is now also the case for an Amazon format that is being sent to the series side after just one season.

According to Deadline, this is My Lady Jane, also from the USA and also set in England, from series creator Gemma Burgess, who adapted the series of novels by Cynthia Hand.

Bridgerton replacement My Lady Jane canceled: This is what the Amazon series was all about

My Lady Jane revolves around the real-life Lady Jane Grey, the so-called Nine-Day Queen – and gives her an alternate-history narrative that doesn’t really stick to the story that happened. And not just because some of the characters in the format can turn into animals.

In her Amazon series, Jane (Emily Bader) is to be sold to Lord Guildford Dudley (Edward Bluemel) in the 16th century. She is not at all enthusiastic about the arranged marriage, despite the attractive man, especially as her husband-to-be is keeping a secret that could also be her undoing. She also has to deal with a murderous plot against her cousin King Edward.

The series did not make it into Nielsen’s streaming top 10, but enjoyed largely positive reviews, as reflected in the review scores of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 71 on Metacritic. Collider, for example, wrote: “My Lady Jane fully commits to the heart and message of the story it wants to tell, with comedy and romance masterfully integrated. ”

Does My Lady Jane end on a cliffhanger?

No. Although it is wrongly stated at the end that the story is not yet over, Lady and her love interest are granted a little happy ending at the end of season 1. If you want to see for yourself, you only have to watch eight episodes on Amazon
