In the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, Netflix stars Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega play mother and daughter. Now the Wednesday star has revealed how the contact went behind the cameras
With Michael Keaton in the role of the titular, cheeky poltergeist, Beetlejuice became one of director Tim Burton’s biggest cult films. 36 years later, a sequel awaits us in cinemas soon, featuring not only the original stars such as Keaton and Winona Ryder, but also well-known names such as Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega.
As our international sister site AdoroCinema reports, the actress recently spoke about how the first meeting with Ryder went for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder developed intense chemistry for Beetlejuice 2
Recently, Ortega spoke about the professional relationship between her and co-star Winona Ryder during a press conference, which was also attended by AdoroCinema. The actress was in the first Beetlejuice movie as teenager Lydia Deetz:
‘I think it was three days of filming. Winona and I sat down and finally had time for a real conversation. It all happened so quickly. But when we started talking, we just didn’t move. It seemed like hours. And then we’d go to her house or she’d come to mine. And we didn’t touch our cell phones, we didn’t go to the bathroom, we didn’t drink water, nothing. We just couldn’t stop.
It’s really hard to relate to Winona Ryder because she’s so cool and easygoing. And Lydia is such a popular character that I think it was a natural pressure to be related to her in some way.

In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) is the mother of teenager Astrid (Jenna Ortega), who is skeptical about her mother’s TV show – “Haunted House with Lydia Deetz”. The death of Lydia’s father and Astrid’s grandfather Charles Deetz finally brings the family back to Winter River, where Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) is still up to mischief.
