In less than four months, all-new Lord of the Rings entertainment is coming to cinemas. In the first trailer for The Battle of the Rohirrim, the anime shows its warlike side

The Amazon series The Rings of Power, which starts its second season next week, is not the only Lord of the Rings project awaiting us this year. The fantasy world of J.R.R. Tolkien returns to the cinema in December with The Lord of the Rings: The Battle of the Rohirrim and now presents itself in the first trailer.

What is the Lord of the Rings anime The Battle of the Rohirrim about?

The Battle of the Rohirrim is set hundreds of years before Frodo’s time in the homeland of the eponymous equestrian race of Rohan. Helm Hammerhand sits on the throne as the ancestor of Théoden, Éomer and Éowyn. But his country is attacked by the warlike Dunlanders. Helm’s valiant daughter Héra does everything in her power to repel the enemy after refusing to marry Wulf, even though the latter arrives with oliphants and a superior force. Rohan’s residents then retreat into a mountain gorge, which later becomes known as Helm’s Deep.

The Lord of the Rings film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is the first time the world and battles of Tolkien have been shown as an anime, i.e. a Japanese animated film. In addition to Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, many other creative minds who were involved in the first fantasy cinema trilogy returned behind the scenes. Éowyn actress Miranda Otto reprises her old role as the narrator in the English original. We have compiled everything else we know about The Battle of the Rohirrim for you in detail elsewhere.

After some fans got a sneak peek at the Lord of the Rings anime, The Battle of the Rohirrim garnered thunderous applause, with observers speaking of the fantasy prequel being “100% like the original trilogy” in their first impressions
