The first half of season 4 of Emily in Paris has reached us on Netflix. Part 2 is already threatening to make a huge change
Fashion, men and cultural faux pas were also on display in the first five episodes of the 4th season of Emily in Paris on Netflix. The loves and woes of the American marketing manager (Lily Collins) in her adopted French home have moved away from the British man in finance Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and increasingly towards the local top chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). But it won’t stay that way for long.
In the second part of season 4, the series threatens to make a major change that could throw the previous concept out of kilter: As the Netflix trailer reveals, Emily will soon be expecting a new love interest – in Italy.
Emily in Rome: Season 4 Part 2 of Emily in Paris says goodbye to an iconic location
Although Emily has often left the French capital over the years – for example to visit Camille’s family in Provence, to track them down in exile in Giverny or to party in St. Tropez – Emily now finds herself in an entirely new European location for the first time. And this happens just as Emily has really made herself at home in France.
Of course, this makes sense in terms of storytelling, as it paves the way for new stories, characters, tensions and pitfalls, but it almost feels like a cheap trick to bring back exactly these elements from season 1. If you can’t think of anything else, take the main character and put them in an unfamiliar environment

The series lives above all from its (semi-authentic) French charm, from the almost insulting flood of clichés and the panoramic shots of the Eiffel Tower, which conjure up the Paris of our wildest dreams. As much as I don’t begrudge Emily exploring new countries like every US expat in Europe, I do wish that her trip to Rome wasn’t too long – or even that she was faced with a possible move.
After all, what could be more soapy and enjoyable than going round and round in circles in Paris and continuing the story for a few more content-free seasons before she finally decides on Gabriel and founds her own marketing company? With its wild city-hopping, the series threatens to become even more of a meme than it already is
Emily in Paris is already a meme
The good and quite likeable thing is that Emily in Paris – and Netflix – are more than aware of this, as you can see from these self-published images with a huge wink:

Maybe the series will surprise us after all and Rome will turn out to be just the right place for Emily. We can all look forward to finding out on September 12, 2024 at the latest, when part 2 of season 4 is released on Netflix. Or as one fan aptly summed it up on X:
Beyond excited my girl Emily in Paris is back. I’ve watched every episode and have not a single memory of last season, the names or any characters or anything else aside from the fact she has a job in Paris. It’s perfect TV. May it run for 1000 seasons. pic.twitter.com/56VxHiCHYk

I’m very happy that Emily is back in Paris. I’ve watched every episode and have no recollection of what happened last season, the names of any characters or anything other than the fact that she has a job in Paris. It’s perfect television entertainment. May it run for 1000 seasons.
