An extremely iconic sci-fi series that began in 1984 is returning to Netflix today. In the new anime series, murderous machines also seek the lives of the entire human race
For 40 years now, humanity has been threatened by time-traveling killer cyborgs. At least that’s the case with the Terminator series: Arnold Schwarzenegger and his murderous colleagues began their hunt for humanity in the first film in 1984. Today, the franchise returns: Netflix is now showing the anime series Terminator Zero.
Sci-fi return on Netflix: That’s what Terminator Zero is all about
Terminator Zero is set in Japan in the 90s. The scientist Malcolm Lee (André Holland) has developed a program to compete with the menacing artificial intelligence Skynet. Suddenly he is hunted by a mysterious killing machine.

The basic plot may seem familiar to franchise fans. But they shouldn’t be put off by it: after all, this dramaturgical skeleton is common to many films in the series, including the sci-fi masterpiece Terminator 2 – Day of Reckoning. Project Power author Mattson Tomlin is among those behind the series. It was directed by Masashi Kudo, who worked on the popular Bleach anime, for example.
Netflix’s sci-fi sequel must save the Terminator franchise
The Terminator franchise may have been around for 40 years, but only the first two films are currently celebrated without controversy. The last installment, Terminator: Dark Fate, flopped so badly in 2019 that many feared for the fate of the series.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has already left the sci-fi series in frustration. Terminator: Zero must inject fresh energy into its universe. We’ll find out whether it succeeds in the next few days
