We almost lost faith that it really existed. But now Ridley Scott has shared the monumental director’s cut of Napoleon with the streaming world after all
Last November, Ridley Scott brought one of his greatest films to theaters. We’re talking about the historical epic Napoleon, which takes us through French history and features numerous battles. It was clear from the outset that we would only get to see the shortened version of this gigantic work in the cinema.
At the time, Scott spoke of a 4.5-hour director’s cut, which would feature a number of moments that were not intended for the big screen. But then it became surprisingly quiet about the extended version. Had Scott secretly buried the plans? No, don’t panic! The director is sticking to his promise
205 minutes of warfare: Ridley Scott finally brings the director’s cut of Napoleon to Apple TV+
A few hours ago, the director’s cut of Napoleon was released exclusively on the Apple TV+ streaming service. If you have a subscription, you can jump straight into the epic battle led by Joker star Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte. You can expect 48 minutes more than in the movies
Here you can watch the trailer for the director’s cut of Napoleon:
In total, the director’s cut of Napoleon has a running time of 205 minutes, which is only one minute shorter than Martin Scorsese’s American epic Killers of the Flower Moon, which was also made under the Apple TV+ umbrella. Napoleon only lasted 158 minutes in theaters. We can’t wait to see what the new version has to offer.
Director’s cuts are not uncommon with Scott. He has even reworked his masterpieces Alien and Blade Runner (several times) over the past few years. The extended version of Kingdom of Heaven is particularly popular with fans.
And while we’re on the subject of director’s cuts: It’s almost poetic that this August is framed by two similarly themed major projects. Earlier this month, Zack Snyder revealed his director’s cuts for Rebel Moon on Netflix. Now Scott is delivering the Napoleon encore at the end. Plenty of material for extensive streaming evenings
