The adrenaline-charged video game adaptation starring Aaron Paul in one of his first major roles after Breaking Bad was only partially successful at the box office. We’re talking about the action scenes – actually a specialty of Dom Toretto and co. Flinging a safe through the streets of Rio de Janeiro or daring stunts on the highway: the Fast & Furious films are bursting with gigantic action scenes that leave us as viewers with amazement and one question at the end: How on earth is this going to be topped in the next installment?
Ultimately, however, this exhibited gigantism has meant that the more recent entries in the Fast & Furious series have increasingly lost the feeling for the otherwise thrilling movements. By the submarine finale of Fast & Furious 8 at the latest, the action loses all appeal in the face of massive CGI enhancements and turns into interchangeable blockbuster cinema.
