At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Nathan Fillion spoke about The Rookie and the canceled spin-off Feds. He really wants to integrate some of the characters into the parent series
The Rookie series is a huge success. So big, in fact, that the US broadcaster ABC launched the spin-off The Rookie: Feds in 2022. However, this was not granted too long a lifespan and was canceled after just one season. At this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, lead actor and executive producer Nathan Fillion spoke about a possible return of the spin-off characters – in The Rookie season 7.
Nathan Fillion confirms that Feds characters will continue to appear in the parent series
According to information available to Deadline, Nathan Fillion confirmed that the series creators want characters from Feds in the original series. This already happened in the season 6 finale. Since the finale aired before Comic-Con, it seems that further appearances are planned. He left it unclear exactly when this will happen. But the message was clear:
The short answer is yes. We are trying to create a universe in which we can all exist.
Showrunner Alexi Hawley would also like the characters to appear in the parent series. In fact, according to a statement she made in an interview with TVLine, it was planned from the beginning that the characters could meet again and again.
I had asked the network afterwards what they thought about me keeping these characters alive […] The fact that they said yes encouraged me.
With such strong words, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before we see another return of The Rookie: Feds characters.
These characters from the spin-off have already appeared in The Rookie
Even before the 1st season of The Rookie: Feds was realized, some characters appeared in the parent series. First and foremost Special Agent Simone Clark (Niecy Nash). She made her first appearance in the 19th episode of season 4 of The Rookie. Her father Christopher “Cutty” Clark (Frankie Faison) was seen for the first time in the same episode. The third character introduced in this episode was FBI agent Matthew Garza (Felix Solis).
In the following 5th season, there were further appearances of Feds characters who had already been introduced in their own series at that time. In the 3rd episode, FBI agent Laura Stensen (Britt Robertson) was seen for the first time in The Rookie. Brendon Acres (Kevin Zegers) did the honors in the very next episode. In the 10th episode, Carter Hope (James Lesure) was also the 6th main character in The Rookie.
The last time we got to see the characters Stensen, Acres and Hope was in the most recent The Rookie episode to date, the season 6 finale. It’s a relief for fans that more appearances are to follow.
