Sci-fi blockbuster with spectacular images storms Netflix charts: It was 22 years in the making and has one of cinema’s biggest stars

A sci-fi blockbuster that relies on unique technology is almost at the top of Netflix’s movie top 10. In addition to cracking action, a mega star plays the leading role(s)

In his career, Hollywood star Will Smith has starred in various science fiction films such as Independence Day and I, Robot. His more recent works of this kind include the 2019 blockbuster Gemini Man. Brokeback Mountain director Ang Lee directed the film, which was first planned in 1997. The result relies on groundbreaking technology that should overwhelm.

Even though the film flopped at the box office, it is now storming the Netflix charts. Gemini Man, which has just been released as a streaming subscription, currently occupies 2nd place in the film top 10

Sci-fi action with Will Smith: This is what Gemini Man is all about

The plot of the film revolves around US agent Henry Brogan (Smith), who is hunted by his clients after he quits. Suddenly he is confronted by his younger clone (also Smith), who is supposed to take him out. A bitter game of cat and mouse ensues.

Netflix hit Gemini Man was shot with extraordinary images

Gemini Man was shot in High Frame Rate (HFR) at 120 frames per second. This creates hyper-real, extremely fluid images. However, there are very few cinemas around the world that can technically show this format. As a result, the effect remained invisible to large parts of the audience.

In addition to the HFR process, a younger Will Smith version was also created at great expense. In contrast to the digital rejuvenation process used for films such as The Irishman or Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Fortune, the young Smith was created entirely on a computer
