New Wicked trailer: The film adaptation of the Broadway hit promises to be the ultimate fantasy event of the year
The story of Wicked begins long before Dorothy’s journey to the magical land and focuses on two characters who could hardly be more different. On the one hand, there is the popular witch Glinda (Ariana Grande), who has the world at her feet. On the other is Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), an outsider in the coven.
Despite their obvious differences, the two find each other at the magical university Shiz. However, their unlikely friendship is soon put to the test. As dreamy as the world of Oz looks: There are many dangers and trials lurking by the side of the yellow stone road that are destined to change our characters forever.

Wicked is based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire and the popular stage play, which premiered in 2003. According to BroadwayWorld, Wicked grossed over 1.6 billion US dollars on Broadway in New York alone. Only one musical was more successful: The Lion King.
This success is now set to be repeated on the big screen. Wicked will be released in two parts, both directed by Jon M. Chu, who knows a thing or two about dance, song and movement. He not only directed the first two Step Up films. He is also behind the successful musical adaptation In the Heights.
