Murder and marriage always work. At least as far as popularity in the Netflix charts is concerned. This is currently proven by the crime-comedy series A New Summer, in which a wedding is torpedoed by a washed-up corpse. How good is the new hit with Nicole Kidman really?
Netflix hit A New Summer gets very mixed reviews
A New Summer revolves around a wealthy family who want to host a wedding on the US island of Nantucket. When the body of a participant washes up during the celebrations, the police take a close look at the luxury clan and its idiosyncrasies

In addition to Kidman, Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Jack Reynor (Midsommar) and Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) can also be seen in front of the camera. However, the star line-up is not enough for some critics: A New Summer may have landed in first place among Netflix series in 78 countries according to FlixPatrol, but it divides professional audiences.
“One of the best miniseries of 2024”, raves the Chicago Sun-Times . “Netflix pap by formula”, on the other hand, is the verdict of the Independent . While Variety praises the entertainment factor of the series, the Hollywood Reporter criticizes the drawn-out dramaturgy.

Who is right is up to the viewers themselves. The star cast will have found many fans, and there is also a familiar name behind the camera, especially for Netflix fans: Susanne Bier has directed all six episodes of the series and previously sat in the director’s chair for Bird Box, for example.
