As the Winter Soldier, Sebastian Stan saves the world in the Marvel universe. For his latest film, he has transformed himself into a completely different character: the young Donald Trump
Is a career outside of Marvel possible? Sebastian Stan, who has been part of the mega-franchise since 2011, says yes. Although most people probably only know him as Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier from the action-packed comic book adaptations, the actor regularly wows audiences in other, really unusual roles.
It was only at the beginning of the year that he stunned audiences at the Berlinale in the unconventional tragicomedy A Different Man. Now the next film starring him has been announced and you should definitely put it on your watch list: The Apprentice – The Trump Story. As the title suggests: It’s all about former US President Donald J. Trump.
First trailer for The Apprentice: Sebastian Stan transforms into the young Donald Trump
The Apprentice is not a biopic that covers Trump’s entire life. Instead, director Ali Abbasi (Border, Holy Spider) and his screenwriter, journalist Gabriel Sherman (The Loudest Voice), focus on the 1970s and 1980s, where Trump (Sebastian Stan) establishes himself as a businessman in the real estate sector.
Of particular importance is the relationship he has with his lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), who is there to help him step out of the shadow of his influential father, Fred Trump (Martin Donovan). His wife, Ivanka Trump (Maria Bakalova), also plays a crucial role in the film, which has already caused controversy.
None other than Donald Trump himself tried to prevent the release of The Apprentice. One of the reasons for this was that the film shows Trump raping his wife. This scene was based on divorce records. Trump’s legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to the film team
