For the first time, the Stephen King story is being adapted as a feature film
Stephen King’s second novel was published in 1975 under the German title Brennen muss Salem and was adapted twice as a miniseries (including by Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper). Gary Dauberman (Annabelle 3) has now ventured into the first feature-length adaptation for the American streaming service Max. He has set the story in the 1970s. Based on the trailer, this could benefit the atmosphere.
The official plot description is as follows:
Salem’s Lot is about Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman), a successful writer who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot to write his next novel. His arrival coincides with the purchase of the house by Kurt Barlow (William Sadler), an ancient vampire who uses his human familiar Richard Straker (Pilou Asbæk) to turn the town’s citizens. As more and more residents are turned into vampires, Mears and his human allies are caught in a fight for their lives.
