Netflix presents its own version of The Hunger Games. You can now watch the dystopian science fiction film Ugly – Don’t Lose Face on the streaming service

The era of young-adult dystopias in cinema is unfortunately over. The trend triggered in the early 2010s by The Hunger Games has spawned many more films. Divergent and Maze Runner are the best-known examples. But there have also been film adaptations such as The Host, The Giver and, most recently, Chaos Walking.

Basically, even Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One can be included in the list. But we digress. Let’s not dwell on the old days, but look to the future. Because Netflix is bringing back the YA dystopia in a big way with Ugly (in the original: Uglies). You can now stream the movie

Netflix follows on from the legacy of The Hunger Games with the dystopian sci-fi film Ugly

Ugly takes us into a world of beauty mania, where young people go under the knife for the perfect look. Specifically, the story takes place 300 years in the future, where society has been divided into two strictly separate classes. On one side are the Pretties, on the other the Uglies.

Here you can watch the trailer for Ugly:

You can probably already guess what that means: If you’re beautiful, you don’t have to worry about anything. Those who are blessed with a less impeccable appearance, on the other hand, will face one obstacle after another. However, all hope is not lost. Because there is a way to become “pretty”.

Anyone who undergoes ritual cosmetic surgery on their 16th birthday can look to the future with confidence. Tally Youngblood (Joey King), the protagonist of the movie, can’t wait for her operation. But it doesn’t take long for her to realize that everything in her world may not be going as it should.
