Amazon Prime is now streaming the great sci-fi mindfuck The Endless, about two brothers who discover amazing things in the cult of their youth.
Science fiction doesn’t need big effects or a 200 million dollar budget to keep us glued to the screen. In the case of 2017’s sci-fi hidden gem The Endless, the story slowly creeps under your skin until it unfolds with a ferocious bang.
This sci-fi tip for The Endless on Amazon Prime Video is spoiler-free!
In The Endless, two brothers return to their UFO cult for a day
The story begins with two brothers, Justin and Aaron Smith, living in precarious circumstances after escaping from the cult 10 years ago. Completely unexpectedly, they receive a videotape from the commune that foreshadows a terrible event. From then on, things get stranger and stranger
The brothers – incidentally played by the two directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead – decide to return to the eerie place of their childhood, partly curiously, partly reluctantly. But only for one day. Apart from the fact that everyone in the commune is overly friendly and just as young as they were 10 years ago, a bizarre trip unfolds for the brothers and for us.
The Endless on Amazon Prime is a terrific sci-fi mindfuck
The Endless is not a sci-fi horror that throws fake blood around and provokes scenes of disgust, but a sophisticated and creeping horror without predictable jumpscares. But with all the more brain-twisting twists. The Endless is malaise incarnate, in which two brothers return to their former UFO cult for a single day after a long time
You’ll have to be patient, though, because you won’t get the answers to your many, many questions, which are sure to pop up more and more during the viewing, until the end of the movie. It all makes sense in the end, I promise! The Endless gave me enormous goosebumps at several points and left me with a vague feeling that I only really know from Twin Peaks
Since I want to recommend the movie to you and don’t want to spoil anything, I won’t reveal any more about the content at this point. Tip from me: Don’t read anything about the movie before you start! And if you liked The Endless, you can look forward to the sci-fi mindfuck sequel from the directing duo
