The Netflix series Heartstopper returns after more than a year with the trailer for season 3. Things are about to get so dramatic for Nick and Charlie that the preview alone is an emotional rollercoaster
It’s been over a year since the queer Netflix teen series Heartstopper was updated with new episodes. Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) are now back with a trailer for season 3 that is bursting with drama and emotion – and announce their eagerly awaited return for this fall:
Hearstopper season 3: Get your tissues ready for the new episodes of the popular Netflix series
Season 2 ended with almost complete declarations of love from the two boyfriends. But we’ll have to be patient until the first real “I love you!”. Will it finally happen in season 3?
Nick wants to show Charlie how much he likes him by being there for him – especially while his boyfriend is struggling with mental health issues. But sometimes that’s not enough, as Nick’s aunt, played by Hayley Atwell, tries to make clear to him. But it’s good to just stand by him, she says, because “That’s love, honey!”
While Heartstopper always celebrates joy and hints at hope, I’m really glad we’re allowing the tone of the show to mature along with our beloved characters. Mental health, sex, university ambitions and more: Nick, Charlie and the Heartstopper teens grow older, learn more about themselves and each other, and experience new desires, new fears and new joys the closer they get to adulthood.
Hearstopper has long been a great success story. The British coming-of-age series has already won 24 awards, including a Family Entertainment Emmy and a GLAAD Award. It is also one of the most popular Netflix formats among the Moviepilot community with an 8.1 in the community rating
Other characters, other problems in Heartstopper season 3
Not only Nick and Charlie face challenges growing up in the new Heartstopper episodes. Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao) try to get closer physically, which unfortunately triggers the trans girl’s gender dysphoria, Tara (Corinna Brown) gets completely stressed out about her future plans and the rather quiet Isaac (Tobie Donovan) feels like a fifth wheel in the clique.
Oscar winner Olivia Colman will unfortunately not appear as Nick’s mother in season 3 due to time constraints. However, she will not be recast. Instead, her absence will be explained within the story. As a consolation prize, however, Jonathan Bailey, known from Bridgerton, appears in the trailer. He plays Nick’s celebrity crush Jack Maddox
