As the Terminator and Conan the Barbarian, Arnold Schwarzenegger shaped the action movies of the 80s. However, according to him, a financial failure of his career is greatly underestimated.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has had an incomparable career. From bodybuilder to actor to respected politician, the Austrian has achieved every goal he has set out to achieve. He became an icon of action films not only as the Terminator. With so many roles and such a long time, not every project was a big hit, of course. But there is one movie that he thinks has been really underrated. This gem has since found its fans as well.
Schwarzenegger is certain: the failure of Last Action Hero can be traced back to political reasons
The actor talked to the Hollywood Reporter about his career, successes and failures. In it, Arnie also showed a more vulnerable side. In the interview, the question was also asked which role was most underestimated. For Schwarzenegger, there was a clear answer: Jack Slater in Last Action Hero. For him, however, the reason why the movie flopped is not a question of quality, but of politics.
It was torn to shreds before anyone saw it. It was literally a political attack because I campaigned for [former President George H.W.] Bush, but Bill Clinton won.
