It is considered one of the most popular revolving sets from the Maxton Hall series – the Marienburg Castle. However, a visit to the location is currently rather difficult. Moviepilot knows the background.
When the first season of the German Amazon Prime series Maxton Hall was released in May this year, a real hype broke out in Germany about the series based on the book series of the same name. It even had the most successful series launch of all non-American “Prime Originals” and landed at number 1 in the charts in 120 regions. One of the main reasons for its success is probably that Maxton Hall deals with topics that affect the young generation – including self-discovery, family expectations, friendship, love and dealing with personal traumas.
But it’s not just the topics and the actors, who primarily include Harriet Herbig-Matten and Damian Hardung, that are convincing, but also the dreamlike backdrop around the Maxton Hall private school. No wonder many viewers are wondering where this fascinating and glamorous place is located and would love to visit it themselves. Moviepilot knows where it is.
Where is the Maxton Hall castle? The private school is actually a castle
In fact, this magical place is located in a small town that you might not have thought of at first glance – namely in Pattensen, in the Hannover region. Specifically, it is Marienburg Castle, the foundation stone of which was laid as early as 1858. It is a neo-Gothic castle that is considered a recognized cultural monument of national importance.
On the Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH portal, the company itself writes: “Discover the magical locations of Maxton Hall. Let yourself be enchanted by the atmosphere of the series and experience unforgettable moments at the authentic locations.” However, visitors should check carefully before their visit to see if this is currently possible at all.
The Maxton Hall castle is currently being renovated, but you have recently been allowed back into the courtyard.
At least the Marienburg Castle is currently undergoing renovation. The website of the Marienburg Castle Foundation states: “Due to severe construction defects, especially in the roof structure, the east, south and west wings of Marienburg Castle are closed. Unfortunately, these rooms, including the former state rooms on the ground floor, cannot be visited at the moment.”
A virtual tour of Marienburg Castle is currently possible. It is not yet known when the “real” rooms will reopen, but it is not expected to be before 2024/2025. According to Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH, it has also been possible to enter the inner courtyard again from Friday to Sunday since August 10, 2024.
Persistent rumors: Is mold the reason for the renovation measures?
But how did it come to the temporary closure of Marienburg Castle and the associated renovation measures? As we already reported to you in spring about Maxton Hall Castle, mold and dry rot were found there, which is now responsible for the renovations that have been going on for over six years. Fans were initially concerned that a second season would not be filmed at all. However, the Hanover region has already approved the filming after safety in certain rooms was confirmed by an expensive report.
And filming is also said to have started in June 2024. However, it is not yet known when the second season will be aired on Amazon Prime. However, if you consider how long the gap between recording and broadcasting is for other series, it should be ready in the course of the coming year, 2025.
