New on Netflix: 4 hours of perfect action and adventure based on a great original

Netflix brings back one of the greatest icons in video game history in an eight-part action-adventure series. You can now stream Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.

Since 1996, Lara Croft has been experiencing exciting adventures in the Tomb Raider games, which have already knocked on Hollywood’s doors several times. The most famous film adaptation to date comes from the 2000s: Angelina Jolie took on the role of the action heroine twice before a reboot followed a decade later.

This time, Ex Machina star Alicia Vikander took on the role of Lara Croft. However, the treasure hunt was over after one film. Now, Netflix is taking the Tomb Raider baton and following up on the latest trilogy of the video game series with the new animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.

While the live-action adaptations tend to loosely adapt details from the video games, this is the first time we’ve seen an actual continuation of a well-known story. With Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Legend of the Tomb Raider, three outstanding Lara Croft games were released between 2013 and 2018. The Netflix series now tells the next chapter with a “new” Lara Croft.

Following Angelina Jolie and Alica Vikander, Hayley Atwell, known as Agent Carter from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, takes on the role of the iconic adventurer who prefers to make her way through eerie ruins with a bow and arrow. However, Hayley does not appear on screen, but lends her voice to Lara Croft.

In the German dubbed version, we hear the Austrian actress Anja Stadlober, who you may know as the German voice of Emma Stone. In the original, Lara Croft was voiced by Camilla Luddington and Nora Tschirner (part 1) and Maria Koschny (parts 2 and 3).
