With Hagen – In the Valley of the Nibelungs, German cinema has achieved an impressive fantasy event. Fans can look forward to an even longer version next year.

Since last week, fantasy fans have been able to marvel at the impressive cinematic epic Hagen – Im Tal der Nibelungen in cinemas, which films the 800-year-old Nibelungen saga with exciting new perspectives and proves how visually stunning fantasy made in Germany can be. And that’s not all. Because next year an even longer version of the story of Hagen (Gijs Naber) and Siegfried (Jannis Niewöhner) will be released.

The fantasy film adaptation Hagen will soon be released in a longer version as a series

From the outset, the film adaptation of Wolfgang Hohlbein’s reinterpretation of the Nibelungen saga, Hagen von Tronje, was conceived as a fantasy event that would be released in two different forms – as a film and as a series. So fans can look forward to an extended version in the form of a miniseries after the theatrical release.

Fantasy fans might be reminded of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, the three movies of which were also released in longer extended versions for home theater. These versions expanded the epic Middle-earth story by an additional 30 to 50 minutes, which were not shown in the movie theater.

Unfortunately, there is currently no specific information available about the content and scope of the series version of Hagen. What we do know, however, is that the series Hagen – Im Tal der Nibelungen will consist of 6 episodes.

A possible calculation example: If the episodes of the Hagen series have a typical running time of about 45 minutes, that would mean a total running time of 270 minutes. This would make the series version exactly twice as long as the theatrical version, which is estimated to be 135 minutes long.
