In the action movie Sisu, a Finnish Rambo has to defend gold and his life against invaders. The bloody hit is now streaming on Netflix.

The Finnish action film Sisu, in which a gold digger takes on a horde of Nazis, is straightforward, brutal and deadly serious. You can now stream the film by Jalmari Helander (Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale) on Netflix, which takes you to the brutal action in Lapland in 1944.

New on Netflix: That’s what the action movie Sisu is about

In the far north of Finland, a gray-bearded man (Jorma Tommila) digs in the earth. His only company in the plains of Lapland is a sweet dog and a horse. One day, his tireless pickaxe strikes a vein of gold in the ground. He is rich. If it weren’t for the war raging around him, he could ride off into the sunset without a care in the world.

It is the Lapland War that breaks out in northern Finland in 1944. The Germans, formerly allies of the Finns, are to be expelled from the country by order of the Soviet Union. They leave scorched earth, blown-up bridges and destroyed villages in their wake.

The man, who rides through the expanse with his gold like a soldier of fortune in the Wild West, encounters remnants of the SS. When they discover that he is transporting gold, they see their chance: at home, according to the Obersturmführer (Aksel Hennie), they would be held accountable for their war crimes. The gold is their way out.
