Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan returns with the sequel to his toughest series yet. The second season of the action thriller Lioness starts today on Paramount+.

With Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan has not only built himself a Western empire. He has become one of the most influential and prolific series creators of our time. Since the debut season of Yellowstone in 2018, he has launched at least one new series every year, while also working behind the camera as a director, screenwriter, and producer, in addition to his role as a series creator.

One of his darkest stories continues on Paramount+: the action thriller Lioness, inspired by true events. The second season of the lavishly produced series, which boasts three big Hollywood stars in its cast: Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman, starts today. Get ready for a hard-hitting spy story full of thrills.

What is the action thriller Lioness with Zoe Saldaña about?

The series centers on an elite U.S. unit codenamed Lioness, led by CIA operative Joe (Saldaña). The unit’s top-secret missions take them to the Middle East, where they infiltrate terrorist cells. By contacting women connected to the terrorists, Joe wants to destroy their organizations from within.

In the second season, a new Lioness agent is recruited to gather information about a threat that neither Joe nor her superiors were previously aware of. It quickly becomes clear that the next mission will not only require all of Joe’s professionalism, but also some personal sacrifices. The big question now is how far she is willing to go to successfully complete her mission.

Zoe Saldaña once again plays the pivotal role of Lioness. The actress is known for her roles in Avatar, Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy. As Neytiri, she guides us through the fantastic worlds of Pandora. Her Uhura had three adventures with the Enterprise crew. And in Marvel, she plays the fearless space warrior Gamora. In Lioness, however, Saldaña shows a completely different side to her talent.

Not only does she find herself in an extremely harsh environment, but her character Joe is a character with many rough edges that draw you deeper and deeper into the series. At this point, Lioness continues the legacy of Claire Danes and Homeland: with each episode, a new moral conflict arises in which Joe must decide whether she is acting for herself, for another individual, or for the greater good.

Abyssal war action and plenty of interpersonal drama: as with Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan plays to his strengths as a series creator in Lioness. He is very familiar with the genres in which he moves, writes exciting stories and populates them with characters with whom you can share the thrill, even if they walk a very fine line between good and evil.
