With Sisu – Revenge is Sweet, a tough war thriller has fought its way to the top of the Netflix charts. It’s a Finnish R-rated feast for Tarantino fans. If you can’t get enough of the Nazis getting it in the face from the fascists in the Tarantino film Inglourious Basterds, you definitely shouldn’t miss the new number 1 in the Netflix movie charts. In the Finnish surprise hit Sisu, directed by Jalmari Helander, a Rambo-like one-man army goes on a historic campaign of revenge.
However, those with a weak constitution might want to avoid this title, because the FSK-18 rating is not to be trifled with in this case.
Sisu at Netflix at number 1: Tarantino and Stallone would be proud
In Sisu, the year is 1944: the Wehrmacht has suffered a defeat at the hands of the Red Army in the north and is in retreat. SS-Obersturmführer Bruno (Aksel Hennie) and his company come across the solitary gold prospector Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tomilla), who has finally struck it rich after years of searching. An easy target for the German thieves? Far from it.
Critics and audiences seem to agree on Sisu, because the film shines at Rotten Tomatoes with a Tomatometer of 84 percent and a Popcornmeter of 88 percent. Our Moviepilot community, on the other hand, is having a hard time with only 6.7 points for the World War action film from Finland. But maybe that will change when the hard-boiled gold prospector Korpi hits Netflix and wins over new fans.
